Third Grade

Third Grade Teachers at West Salem STRIVE:

The third grade teachers are excited for the time we get to spend with our students this school year helping them grow as learners.  In third grade we solidify phonetic reading skills and learn how to shift from reading to learn, to learning to read.  Students will spend time reading a variety of books in whole group, small group, and independently. Third graders build their reading stamina by daily engagement with books.  The best way to grow as a reader is to READ, so please encourage your child to read every day.  They can read with you, to you, to a sibling or to a pet. When they are reading, they are learning.

In math we will learn ALL of our multiplication facts from 0-12 and we encourage you to make daily math facts practice a part of your family routine.  You could even practice these at the dinner table or in the car.  We will deepen our understanding of place value, learn about time, create and analyze graphs, work with geometric terms and so much more.

In science we will learn about the scientific method, ecosystems and animal adaptations, matter including the water cycle, soil and much more! In social studies, we will learn about economics and study several ancient civilizations.

Please reach out to your child’s teacher at any time.
