Good afternoon Cardinals!
We are busy making preparations for your return to school in August and are so excited to see our Cardinal families! Here are 10 tips from our amazing SCS school nurses to help you prepare for returning back to school…
PRACTICE HAND HYGIENE: Teach your child to sing the ABC’s or count to 20 while washing the front, back and in between the fingers.
PRACTICE PUTTING MASK ON/OFF: Your child will be required to wear a mask on the bus, upon entering school, and within common areas. For young children, it may be helpful if their doll, stuffed animal, or action figure has a mask to wear as well.
PRACTICE 6 FT. DISTANCE: Measure the distance on the floor. Consider laying pieces of paper down for a visual.
PURCHASE A THERMOMETER: Check your child’s temperature, If they have a fever they must stay home until fever-free without the use of Tylenol/Motrin. If they develop a fever at school, they will be required to remain out of school until fever-free for at least 3 days. Either one of these situations may require doctor documentation stating that it is safe for their return to school.
MAKE/PURCHASE MASKS: Consider making or purchasing extra masks to ensure proper time to wash them between use. Label your child’s mask.
UPDATE IMMUNIZATIONS/PHYSICALS: Contact your child’s pediatrician for an appointment. **There will be a drive-thru Tdap clinic for rising 7th graders provided by the Health Dept. at Andrew Lewis Middle School on 8/18 from 4-6 pm.**
HAVE YOUR HEALTH PLANS UPDATED: If your child has Diabetes, Asthma, Allergy, Seizure or any other diagnosis – then they will need a health care plan completed by their healthcare provider and parent/guardian. Please follow this link for online forms:
If you do not have access to the online forms, please call your school to request a copy of the form to be mailed to you.
PURCHASE REUSABLE WATER BOTTLE: Water fountains will not be in service.
VERIFY/UPDATE EMERGENCY CONTACTS: If your child presents with COVID like symptoms, they will need to be picked up immediately. Please ensure a contact can be reached at any given time.
STAY INFORMED: Educate yourself from reliable sources such as the CDC and the Virginia Department of Health.
